About Us
Our research group is located at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Oklahoma State University.
Group Mission and Vision
The Gonzalez-Estrella Environmental Engineering (GE3) research group focuses on fate, reactivity, and effect of emergent and perseverant contaminants on engineered and natural water systems and terrestrial ecosystems. His research group investigates biological and physicochemical mechanisms driving degradation processes, mobility, and effects of contaminants on water and soil. Dr. Gonzalez’s group aims to bridge mechanistic laboratory-based work and community environmental health to understand potential exposure pathways and develop transformative technologies.
Current Research
Our current research is focused on projects involving:
Occurrence of microplastics in freshwater systems and interaction of microplastics with heavy metals and organic compounds
Generation processes and transformation of microplastics
Effect of microplastics on biological processes of wastewater treatment plants
Acceleration of the biotransformation of persistent contaminants
